What is career visibility?
Career visibility is how easily the right recruiters can find you, trust your experience, and choose you for an interview. It covers every place you are searched or screened: applicant tracking systems (ATS), LinkedIn, PNet, government application portals, and the people who could refer you.
Most South African job seekers are not unqualified. They are invisible. Their CV is filtered out before a person reads it, their LinkedIn profile does not appear in recruiter searches, and their PNet profile is incomplete. Career visibility fixes that.
Why good candidates get no response
If you have sent 50 or 100 applications and heard nothing back, the problem is rarely your ability. Hiring has changed. Recruiters now search, filter and shortlist long before any interview, and most of that happens without you knowing.
Here is what usually goes wrong:
-
Your CV is rejected by software, not people. Many employers use applicant tracking systems that scan for keywords and format. A beautifully designed CV can still be unreadable to the system.
-
You do not show up when recruiters search. Recruiters search LinkedIn and PNet databases by job title, location and skills. If your profile does not use the words they type, you do not appear.
-
Your profiles tell different stories. A recruiter finds you on PNet, then checks LinkedIn. If the titles, dates and achievements do not match, they move on.
-
Your experience is listed, not proven. Duties tell recruiters what you were supposed to do. Results tell them what you can do for them.
My story: when a decade of experience was invisible
I learned this the hard way. With almost ten years of experience and strong internal referrals, I applied to a former employer. My CV was blocked by their ATS. The only reason my application was seen at all is that people inside the company manually looked for it.
Most job seekers do not have someone inside to rescue their application. That experience, together with my digital marketing training, is why I started Khumbu Digitals: to be the bridge between what job seekers are doing and what the hiring system is actually looking for.
The 4 places you need to be visible
1. Applicant tracking systems (ATS)
Your CV must be readable by software and convincing to a person. That means a clean structure, the right keywords for your target role, and measurable achievements. ATS-friendly CV guide
2. LinkedIn
LinkedIn is where recruiters search for and verify candidates. Your headline, skills and experience need to match how recruiters search for your role. LinkedIn guide
3. PNet
PNet's CV database holds millions of candidate profiles, and recruiters search it directly to fill roles, some of which are never advertised. A complete, keyword-rich profile with Open to Work switched on puts you in front of them.
4. Government portals and the Z83
Public service jobs follow their own rules. One missed field on the Z83, or a missing document, can disqualify you before your experience is considered. Government jobs guide
The Career Visibility System
At Khumbu Digitals, every client follows the same research-led process, so nothing is based on guesswork.
-
Market research. We study live job adverts for your target roles to see exactly what employers are asking for.
-
Skills gap analysis. We compare your experience against those requirements and find what is missing or hidden.
-
Discovery call. We uncover the results and stories you have forgotten to mention, using questions like "walk me through your day" and "what outcomes have you delivered?"
-
Aligned profiles. Your CV, LinkedIn and PNet profile are rebuilt to tell one consistent, keyword-rich story.
-
Interview readiness. Your achievements become structured STAR stories you can use in interviews.

What changes when you become visible
We have worked with more than 300 job seekers. On average, clients see their interview rate improve by about 40%. Among clients we surveyed who completed both their LinkedIn and PNet work, every one secured interviews. One client received more than 10 interview requests in a single month from PNet profile optimisation alone.
Check your own career visibility in 5 minutes
Answer yes or no:
-
Have you tailored your CV to the specific job titles you are applying for?
-
Would your LinkedIn profile appear if a recruiter searched your target job title and city?
-
Is your PNet profile 100% complete with Open to Work switched on?
-
Do your CV, LinkedIn and PNet profile show the same titles and dates?
-
Does each role on your CV include at least one measurable result?
If you answered no to two or more, you are probably less visible than your experience deserves.
Frequently asked questions
Is career visibility the same as personal branding?
No. Personal branding is how you are perceived. Career visibility is whether the right people can find you in the first place. You need visibility before your brand can do its job.
Do I need to post on LinkedIn every day to be visible?
No. A well-optimised profile is found in recruiter searches even if you rarely post. Content helps, but it should show the problems you have solved, not just announce that you are job hunting.
Can I improve my career visibility myself?
Yes. Our free guides walk you through each step. If you would rather have it done with you, our services handle the research, writing and optimisation.
How long does it take to see results?
Many clients notice more profile views and recruiter contact within weeks of updating their profiles, but results depend on your field, location and how actively you apply.
Does career visibility help for government jobs?
Yes. Government applications are screened against strict requirements, so being complete, accurate and aligned to the advert is how you stay visible in that process.
